Basic Prep for Delicious Lion's Mane Mushrooms

Basic Prep for Delicious Lion’s Mane Mushrooms

Lion’s mane mushrooms are very dense and have a high moisture content. Preparing them using this method helps make them more tender.

First, heat a small frying pan on medium heat without any additives.

Slice mushrooms into 1/2 inch medallions.

Place in pan and dry saute for 4-5 minutes on each side until a brown crust develops on the edges.

Remove mushrooms from pan.

Add butter, olive oil, or coconut oil and any other ingredients you’d like to use (such as shallots, garlic, white wine, any seasoning, or just a little bit of salt and pepper).

Place medallions back into pan for 4-5 minutes and brown both sides.

Serve with the main dish or as an appetizer.

If you would like to add the lion’s mane to a dish that will be cooked, just dry saute.

You can also peel the mushrooms apart like lobster or crab meat and use the same dry saute method.

I’ve found that they make an excellent substitute or additive to crab cakes when prepared using the method above.
